Abstract | [TRANSLATED FROM CHINESE] This is an essay based on the 'Trialogue' among three tutors who are the key members of the CAFA/Westminster Joint Studio. The discussion covers the history, the content, the method of this unique academic studio. The talk also expands to the social housing history and contemporary development from China and UK, the urban enclaves and thresholds of Beijing and London, and the comparative pedagogies of the architectural schools of CAFA and University of Westminster. Also discussed is how western romanticism and Chinese idea of poetics would influence the housing design of the future. Finally, it argues that this kind of cross-cultural collaboration and communication is vitally important for global urban research, architectural design and education. |
