Description

10 minute film made using material recovered from an abandoned Lebanese film studio, Studio Baalback, during 'The Perverted Archival Image' workshop Berlin 2022, and exhibited at the Archives and Imaginaries exhibition, Berlin, March 24th to April 28th 2022.

'Fragments and Annotations' plays with the notion of archive as an ongoing and fluid, and perhaps unfinished, process. Images are easily subverted through sound, and this is made explicit when gestures onscreen are accompanied by juxtaposed sounds. Montage allows varied contexts, interpretations and relationships to coexist, allowing the viewer to develop their own feelings, memories and associations. Is a Perverted Archive rendered perverse through its source material, through the way it is used or abused by makers, or by the way it is interpreted by an audience?
