| Abstract | This article examines a case of illegal trading in enslaved Africans between Barbados and Trinidad in April 1829. It investigates erasure of the enslaved African in the archive, paying particular attention to the enslaved person who alerted the authorities as to what was happening. It argues that by asking contrapuntal questions, one can start to perform a reinscription of the human into the archive. |
