Dr Victoria Brooks

I am a writer and researcher in the area of ethics and sexuality, with a particular interest in women and bisexuality/queerness. My creative non-fiction book, 'Fucking Law: the search for the ethics of her sexuality' was published in 2019 by Zero books, and is an attack on law, identity, research ethics, academia, philosophy and philosophers, and conventional ways of judging sexuality and morality. I am interested in ways of creatively telling personal stories about sexuality, 'occupying' academic space and challenging inhibiting ethical frameworks (institutional and personal) in research practice, particularly in the field of sexuality. I have a book forthcoming for Bloomsbury called Mistress Ethics: on the Virtues of Sexual Kindness, which will be a book helping us to understand what we can learn about relationships and sexuality from Mistresses.

My research is on sexual ethics. I am interested in both research ethics (particularly relating to ethnography and sexuality work) and personal ethics. I have published work on these themes (including articles, an edited collection and a book). I write academic as well as media and fiction pieces on women's sexuality, ethics and queerness.

I am a member of the Centre for Law, Gender, Race and Sexuality at the University of Westminster.
