Miss Emma Dodson
I studied illustration at University of Westminster and since 1992 have been freelancing as a painter and propmaker and occasional art directorr for film and TV. I have worked on numerous films including: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, 47 Ronin, Captain America, Hugo, Wolfman, Golden Age, Van Helsing, Troy, Five Children and It, Pirates of the Carribbean, Cold Mountain, Chocolat, Evita, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
TV shows include: Harry Hill’s Tv Burp, Mongrels, Miranda Hart, Psychoville, League Of Gentlemen, Absolutely Fabulous, French And Saunders, Jonathan Creek, Shooting Stars, Mid Sommer Murders, Eastenders, Room 101, Fungus the Bogeyman, Professor Branestawm.
I also write, illustrate and design novelties for children’s picture books. My work has been published by Walker Books, Hodder, Templar, Scholastic, Barrons, Candlewick Press, A&C Black. I am particularly interested in exploring the relationship between concept, visual narrative and physical interaction with novelty aspects of a book to enhance a child’s learning.
My research practice draws together various skills, interests and professional activities in the exploration of the evocative nature of materials and implied narratives of different physical environments. This work tends to take the form of site specific interventions and ephemeral responses to ‘liminal’ spaces that appear neglected or vandalised.
Some of this work has been documented and presented in a group show ‘ The book, materiality and make’ 2014 London Gallery West.
Working with others, I am hoping to expand this area of investigation - examining how physical environments might be harnessed in conjunction with text, image, digital and emerging medias to create immersive narrative experiences and new languages for story telling.
