Mrs Beatriz Hernandez-Usero


Beatriz Hernández-Usero is Lecturer in Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures & Westminster Professional Language Centre as well as Lecturer in Employability.

She holds a MA in Applied Linguistics in Spanish Language Teaching as Foreign Language by the University of Jaén (Spain). Her thesis was entitled "El cine; herramienta didáctica en la clase de E/LE" (Cinema; a didactical tool in the classroom of Spanish as Foreign Language). In 2006 she completed a Postgraduate Diploma as Specialist in Teaching Spanish Language as a Foreign Language by the University of Murcia (Spain). In 2004 she graduated with a Degree as Teacher, BA in Primary Education by the same educational institution.

From 2008, when she joined University of Westminster as a lecturer, she has been developing her teaching career in different fields of studies, practices and research which enrich her quality of teaching of Spanish as FL with the most up-to-date trends and methologies. She is particularly interested in: Discourse and Film Narration applied to Spanish Language Teaching; Intercultural Communication applied to Spanish Language Teaching; Lexical Approach; Task-based learning; and Employability in High Education sector.

During the time she has been teaching Employability through Career Management Skills workshops in the UG Programme, she has been able to find work placements in different parts of Spain for our Undergraduate Students in Modern Languages and Cultures Department. She also has developed and maintained good networks with Spanish employers in Spain to guaranty the continuity of our internship program in that country.


Her current research is focused on Audio Visual Translation (subtitling) as well as Blending Learning.
