Dr Shuliang Li


Dr Shuliang Li is a Reader in Business Information Management at the University of Westminster. He is a Fellow (life member) of the British Computer Society (FBCS). He acted as BIM&O departmental Research Leader from January 2010 to July 2013. His research outputs were submitted to the UK Research Assessment Exercises, RAE2001 and RAE2008, and the Research Excellence Framework, REF2014.

He has been acting as a supervisor of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and academic visitors.

Dr Shuliang Li's main research interests cover information management, the Metaverse, Metaverse strategies and analytics, business information systems, decision support systems, hybrid intelligent business systems, Web-based intelligent business systems and knowledge automation, Internet-enabled multi-agent-based intelligent decision support systems, business intelligence, quantum strategies and quantum models for business & management, Web analytics, e-commerce systems evaluation, systems modelling and computer simulation; computerised support for open innovation, multi-agent-based modelling & simulation of low carbon management, Web dynamics, social media dynamics, models & intelligent systems for marketing & digital marketing decision making.

Shuliang has created and developed various intelligent decision support software systems, and published a number of research papers on peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. His publications have appeared in the following refereed journals: Decision Support Systems (the international journal), European Journal of Marketing, Expert Systems with Applications (an international journal), Intelligent Systems in Accounting, Finance and Management (international journal), Marketing Intelligence and Planning, Industrial Management & Data Systems, International Journal of Management and Decision Making, Chinese Journal of Management Science, Mathematics, and others. His papers have also appeared in various conference proceedings published by IEEE. 

Shuliang's journal articles and conference papers have been cited and used by professors and researchers in USA, Finland, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Greece, Spain, Turkey, South Africa, Taiwan, mainland China and many other countries. The world renowned decision support systems field teaching textbook, Decision Support Systems and Intelligent Systems (Seventh editions, Prentice Hall International, 2005), has included two pages of Shuliang’s research paper. According to Google Scholar, google.com, Science Citation Index (SCI), Ei and baidu.com, Shuliang’s research papers and books have been cited widely in a large number of journal articles, reputable conference proceedings, books and research reports across the world. 

With established international research excellence for many years, Shuliang has submitted for the UK Research Assessment Exercises (RAE) 2001 and 2008, and the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.

Shuliang has been a reviewer for several international journals indexed by SCI. In addition, he served as an Application Stream Programme Committee member and reviewer for British Computer Society SGAI AI2004, AI2005, AI2006, AI2007, AI2008, AI2009, AI2010, AI2011 and AI2012 (at the University of Cambridge, England, UK), and a reviewer for several other international conferences and book publishers.  Moreover, he was invited to review research proposals for ESRC (2007, 2012) and EPSRC (2011). Shuliang served as a technical co-chair for ICMTMA 2015 conference (China), a Keynote Speaker for the 7th international conference on intelligent computation technology and automation (ICICTA 2014) (China), a General Chair & Keynote Speaker for the 6th international conference on intelligent systems design and engineering applications (ISDEA 2015) (China), and a Committee Chair & Keynote Speaker for international conferences on information management (ICIM 2016) & systems (ICBIS 2016), London, UK. He acted as a General Chair & Keynote Speaker for the 2016 international conference on robots & intelligent systems (ICRIS 2016) (China), and a Committee Chair & Keynote Speaker for the 6th International Conference on Information Communication and Management (ICICM 2016) (England, UK). Also, Shuliang has acted as or currently serve as a Conference Chair & Keynote Speaker for the  International Conference on Information Management, ICIM 2017 (Chengdu, China), and ICIM 2018 (at the University of Oxford, England, UK), a General Chair for the 7th international conference on intelligent systems design and engineering applications (ISDEA 2017) (China), and a Conference Chair & Keynote Speaker for the international conference on knowledge engineering and applications (ICKEA 2017, Imperial College London), and the international conference on the frontiers of knowledge related educational technologies (ICFET 2017, Imperial College London, England), ICIM2018 & ICCMB 2018 (at the University of Oxford, England, UK), the international conference on information management & management science (IMMS 2018 & 2019 & 2021 & 2022 & 2023, China), ICIM 2019 & ICIM 2024 (at the University of Cambridge, England, UK), IMMS 2020 and ICIM 2020 & 2021 (online), ICIM2022 (Cambridge), and ICIM2023 (at the University of Oxford). Most of the conference proceedings have been or will be published by IEEE or ACM, and indexed by Ei, Scopus, etc.

His research was supported by QR (Quality Related) funding, industrial research gift and NSFC. Furthermore, he was officially granted the 100-Talent Scheme research award by Sichuan provincial government, China, for collaborating and undertaking cutting-edge research. Shuliang was awarded Fellowship status in January 2010 by the British Computer Society.
