Mrs Lucy Shimidzu

I joined WBS as a PTVL in 2008, I am currently in SOES, and also work in SMM, teaching mainly modules focused on HRM, OB and research skills, and supervising student research projects. Prior to joining WBS I had lectured part time for Chester in London, and the Universities of Glyndwr, Wales, and Glamorgan.

Previously I ran small business Sartorial Splendour, designing and making bespoke clothing of all kinds; also co-founded, managed and played in The London Trio, playing classical concerts and for weddings, corporate events, etc., and worked part-time as a freelance business consultant. Originally I trained as a classical pianist, and continue to maintain my playing, teaching and coaching practice.

I researched the perceived effects of mindfulness practice on UG students for my MAHE dissertation: Using Mindfulness to inform a Metacognitive approach to Teaching and Learning. This followed collaborative research projects with WBS colleagues on mindfulness for students, and the acclimatization of overseas students.

Research interests include:

·       The influence of meditation practice on cognitive function, emotional stability and wellbeing

·       Student acclimatization and wellbeing

·       Critical thinking and analysis skills development for academic writing

·       Leadership for the 21st century

·       Business sustainability
