Danilo Mandic is Senior Lecturer at University of Westminster.
Danilo holds LLB Legal Studies (Ss Cyril and Methodius), LLM Entertainment Law (Westminster) and PhD in Copyright Law (Westminster). His thesis ‘Copyright and Technology: Hearing the Dissonance’ deployed the notion of ‘noise’ as a methodological tool to critically question the copyright paradigm but also to investigate and comprehend the intrinsic relationship between copyright and technology. He also held a Postdoctoral Teaching and Research Fellow post before joining the Westminster Law School.
Danilo’s engagement with the study of law and its interactions with humanities is a strong aspect of his research and teaching activity. His current research looks at the relationship between law and sound and investigates the extent to which the quality of sound informs new methodological approaches for hearing, understanding, and thinking about law. In addition to this, his focus is copyright law, art and law, law and the senses, and law and popular culture.
Danilo teaches across different undergraduate and postgraduate modules. He is Module Leader for Law and Social Media (LLB) and Co-Module leader for Globalisation: Politics, Law and the Arts (BA). On the LLM, he is Module Leader for Law of Digital Entertainment and Social Media. He is also supervising a number of LLM dissertations and PhD students, and is Deputy Course Leader for LLM Entertainment Law.
Danilo’s research interests include intellectual property law, art law, law and sound, law and technology, aesthetics of law, sound studies, and popular culture. His research is particularly focused on copyright and its intersection with digital technology and art practices, as well is investigating new conceptual and methodological frameworks to critically think about copyright law. His work is situated within the intersections of law and humanities, with a particular interest in the processes of knowledge formation. Danilo’s work has also been engaged with the oeuvre of the French philosopher of science Michel Serres.
Danilo is also a is one of the co-editors of the Law and the Senses series published by University of Westminster Press (2018-22).
