Mr Onur Demirci

Onur is a tenured academic with practical expertise and research interests in Mathematics spanning a number of areas, including Quantitative Analysis, Machine Learning and Pedagogy.

He specialises in Artificial Intelligent Algorithm-Based Valuation Models (AVMs) – Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), equity derivative structuring, mathematical and statistical modelling that investigate the relationship between pricing and valuation, risk, pattern and correlations. He has experience in coding for financial programming using languages such as Python, Java, C++, R and MATLAB.

Onur wears two hats at the University of Westminster; he is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for all Foundation pathways within the School of Applied Management, Westminster Business School.

He is also an affiliated and matriculated member of the University of Cambridge, Homerton College, where he focuses on research on the subject of Mathematics.

Outside academia, Onur is the founder and managing director of a FinTech start-up specialising in AI-based algorithms, using cloud services like SaaS and PaaS. Together with his team, they develop algorithms for some of the top-tier financial institutions in the UK. In addition to this, he holds two board appointments. He serves as an advisor/consultant to two regulated firms: a publicly traded financial services company and a real estate investment firm.

Prior to joining Westminster University, Onur held leadership roles in asset management firms and systemic players. He was also a strategic partner and franchise owner that led the expansion of the world's largest real estate conglomerate network into the UK.

Onur is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society (FRSS), Fellow of the Royal Society, for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA) and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS). He is also a fully qualified teacher status holder (QTS), awarded by The Department for Education of Her Majesty’s Government.

Onur is an alumnus of the University of Cambridge and UCL (University College London).
