Dr Faye Shortland


Faye joined the Active Travel Academy in May 2024 as a Research Associate. Prior to this, Faye worked at multiple institutions, such as the University of Sheffield, the James Hutton Institute, and the University of Reading. Faye completed her PhD in Geography at the University of Birmingham in 2020. 

Faye is interested in qualitative methodologies, in particular go-along interviews, ethnography, auto-ethnography, and focus groups. 

Faye's research interests centralise around community change, mental health, the rural/urban divide, and landscape experience. She is particularly interested in how people interact with their environment and go about making changes, whether it be social, cultural, or political.
