Abstract

In order to survive and prosper, the conference industry, like all other sectors, must constantly adapt its products and services to ensure that they continue to meet the ever-evolving needs of the market. One of the main challenges facing events organisers and conference venues is the need to understand the needs and wishes of Generation Y delegates: the youngest, but fastest-growing, cohort of employees in the global workforce. Their values, attitudes and lifestyles are extremely different to those of the Baby Boomers and Generation X who preceded them, and they are having a significant impact on the world of work in general and on corporate events in particular. This workshop will examine the most recent research into Generation Y as conference delegates and will explore the practical ways in which venues and events organisers can ensure that the conferences they plan or host will motivate and satisfy delegates in this vitally important age-group.
