Abstract

An essay exploring Bushey Cemetery and YSP Visitors Centre and Gallery, based on interviews with the architects and close examination of Robert Smithson's works and writing surrounding sedimentation and geology. The text will set out the material and construction choices behind the two buildings and how this responds to both the buildings' programme, and its relationship to the landscape. The essay will also set out how the two projects represent a shift in thinking surrounding the anthropocene in architecture, and the impact of building on the earth.
