TitlePhotography as Critical Practice: Notes on Otherness
AuthorsBate, D.
Abstract

This book is a collection of separate photographic works and essays by the author. The works and essays, put together for the first time in a single volume represents an extensive body of critical reflection - in practice and writing - on photography as critical practice. The sub-title refers to the alienating effect of subject-object relations, in particular to the photographer and viewer as actor in social relations and cultural difference. The themes include gender, class, ethnic and cultural difference, alongside the radical effects of self-reflection.
