Abstract | Government of Malaysia has done various efforts to promote the usage of Industrialised Building System (IBS) as an efficient and effective construction system compare to conventional building system. This paper reviews the experiences of Malaysian construction industry in the adoption of IBS from the first level of establishment until its development. This research select IBS as a construction technique in which components are manufactured in a controlled environment (on or off site), transported, positioned and assembled into a structure with minimal additional site works. IBS have been categorised to: precast concrete framing, steel formwork system, steel framing systems, block work system and prefabricated timber framing system. A comprehensive review from various sources conducted to define and classified IBS in this paper. The findings of this research illustrated the timeline of IBS establishment and development in Malaysia. |
