Dr Mohammad Abedi

I am a lecturer in construction with WBS's School of Applied Management.

My career in the construction industry began after the completion of my associate degree in civil engineering. I then joined a construction company where I held the role of construction supervisor.

Here I assisted the company in the planning and management of construction projects, the logistic and administrative aspects of construction documents, and facilitated the overall management of construction. In parallel, I started studying towards a BSc and received my degree in Civil Engineering.

After gaining four years of construction industry experience in managing diverse construction projects including residential buildings, non-residential buildings and public infrastructure, I graduated my MSc in Integrated Construction Project Management from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in 2010.

I also completed my PhD in Civil Engineering (Construction Management) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2016. My major contribution during my PhD was developing a context-aware collaboration tool for precast supply chain management.

After my PhD, I started to work as a construction manager and site supervisor for three years. I implemented various construction project management techniques (both to concrete and steel structures). I had to ensure that a project was completed safely, make sure the project ran on time, and achieve quality standards within the allocated budget allowance.

Parallel to this role, I joined two universities for teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with supervising the research students and being an internal examiner for them.

I have achieved the Fellow in Higher Education Academy (FHEA), within the University of Reading. Furthermore, I achieved the Advance HE certificate for External Examiners in September 2021.

From 2019-2022, I contributed to Teaching within the School of Construction Management and Engineering in University of Reading for several modules as:

- Construction Science (CE1CCS)

- Construction Site Engineering (CE1CSE)

- Materials and Structural Analysis (CE1MSA)

I have published more than 25 technical papers (total citations: 289 and h-index: 11) in a variety of journals (ISI, Scopus and open access) and international conferences within following areas: Construction Project Management (CPM), Construction Collaboration Tools (CCT), Precast Supply Chain Management (PSCM), Industrialised Building System (IBS), Cloud Computing, Mobile Information System, Green Construction Management (GCM), Context-Awareness and Augmented Reality (AR). Since 2018, I had been the reviewer for the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (ASCE: American Society of Civil Engineers), Journal of Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management (Emerald Publishing) and also the Journal of Building and Environment (Elsevier). In terms of professional and applied research, I developed A Context-Aware Collaboration Tool for Precast Supply Chain Management in Malaysian Construction Industry.
