Dr Mohammad Abedi

Dr Mohammad Abedi is a lecturer in construction with WBS's School of Applied Management. His career in the construction industry began after the completion of his associate degree in Civil Engineering. He then joined a construction company where he held the role of a construction supervisor. Here he assisted the company in the planning and management of construction projects, the logistic and administrative aspects of construction documents, and facilitated the overall management of construction. In parallel, he started studying towards a BSc and received his degree in Civil Engineering.

After gaining four years of construction industry experience in managing diverse construction projects including residential buildings, non-residential buildings and public infrastructure, Mohammad graduated with his MSc in Integrated Construction Project Management from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in 2010. Also, he completed his PhD in Civil Engineering (Construction Management) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2016. His major contribution during his PhD was developing a context-aware collaboration tool for the precast supply chain management.

After his PhD, Mohammad started to work as a construction manager and site supervisor for three years. He implemented various construction project management techniques (both to concrete and steel structures). He had to ensure that a project was completed safely, make sure the project ran on time, and achieve quality standards within the allocated budget allowance. Parallel to this role, he joined two universities for teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with supervising the research students and being an internal examiner for them.

Mohammad has achieved the Fellow in Higher Education Academy (FHEA) at University of Reading. Also, he achieved the Advance HE certificate for External Examiners in September 2021. Furthermore, from Sep 2019 to Mar 2022, he contributed to Teaching within the School of Construction Management and Engineering at University of Reading for several modules as:

  • Construction Science
  • Construction Site Engineering
  • Materials and Structural Analysis

Mohammad has published more than 25 technical papers (total citations: 323 and h-index: 12) in a variety of journals (ISI, Scopus and open access) and international conferences within following areas: Construction Project Management (CPM), Construction Collaboration Tools (CCT), Precast Supply Chain Management (PSCM), Industrialised Building System (IBS), Cloud Computing, Mobile Information System, Green Construction Management (GCM), Context-Awareness and Augmented Reality (AR). Moreover, he had been the reviewer for the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (ASCE: American Society of Civil Engineers–since 2018), the Journal of Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management (Emerald Group Publishing–since 2020) and also the Journal of Intelligent Buildings International (Taylor & Francis–since 2022). In terms of professional and applied research, he developed A Context-Aware Collaboration Tool for Precast Supply Chain Management in Malaysian Construction Industry.
