Abstract

This Manual explores the role of the construction site as an essential component within architectural education.
There is a critical, but not necessarily surprising, lack of research into this area.
Where research and practice do exist, it is written from the point of view of the architectural educator. Very few student voices are recorded and there is next to nothing from the side of the professionals that host, and ultimately employ and work with young architects.
The purpose of this Manual is fourfold:
● Carry out much needed academic research into this critical area
● Provide a guide to universities and university staff who are restructuring their courses
and developing teaching modules
● Record and celebrate the work of students on the Site Diary module.
● Provide a ‘How to do it Guide’ for incoming staff for the Site Diary module.
