Prof Andrew Groves
Professor Groves leads a programme of exhibition-led and public-facing research through the Westminster Menswear Archive. These projects bring academic research on menswear into museums, galleries, industry, and public debate, connecting clothing to wider questions of labour, identity, authority, and social organisation.
Major exhibitions include Invisible Men: An Anthology from the Westminster Menswear Archive (2019), the largest menswear exhibition staged in the UK, C.P. Library (2021) with the British Textile Biennial, Undercover: From Necessity to Luxury (2021), and Umbro 100: Sportswear x Fashion (2024).
The Westminster Menswear Archive supports museum and gallery exhibitions through object access, research support, and interpretive input, including work with the Museum of London, V&A Dundee, Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam, and Manchester Art Gallery.
Alongside exhibitions, Groves works with fashion brands, cultural organisations, and heritage bodies as an advisor on archives, design research, and historical analysis. This ensures that research produced at Westminster circulates beyond the university into industry, museums, and public culture, reinforcing the Archive’s role as a national resource for menswear.
