Ms Nuala OSullivan


Nuala OSullivan is an occupational psychologist with a background in consultancy and change management relying on her early career as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. She is a graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (GBR BPS) and the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, as well as an Academic Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  Nuala is a qualified Coach, NLP Practitioner and ACAS trained workplace mediator with PRINCE2 and DSDM project management achievements. Her academic qualifications include BSc in Psychological Sciences and MSc in Occupational and Organizational Psychology. Nuala is completing her MA in Higher Education. Nuala is currently a PhD candidate in Health Psychology at Trinity College Dublin.

Nuala is part of the course leadership team for the MA Management suite of programmes, with a particular focus on the Certificate and Diploma level students. As Senior Employability Tutor for the Westminster Business School, Nuala collaborates with the Business Experience Team and Career Development Centre to run career development workshops, introducing industry speakers, alumni panels and integrating employability skills such as: psychometric testing, interview and application skills into the curriculum. Nuala runs the placement module for all undergraduate students and the PG Internship work experience module for all master’s level students. Nuala trains alumni mentors and mentees and the programme has recently been accredited for mentors with her training commended.

Nuala is an external examiner and external assessor and interested in extending the learning conversation by applying cognitive principles to development. Nuala has acted as a subject co-ordinator and is currently the CIPD assessor for UG and PG programmes at Anglia Ruskin.

Over the past 30 years Nuala has developed a niche as a management consultant, coaching one:one on influencing and change. Nuala's consultancy has centred around change and influence at the individual level and her writing on the Future of Work (2009) and Communication at Work (2010) have augmented these areas. Nuala's work encompasses public, private and not for profit organizations from technology centred software providers to large pharmaceutical companies and charity co-operatives. She regularly contributes to the press debate and has recorded podcasts on OCB, Job Creep, Talent Management and Managing the Recessionary Workforce. Nuala uses a client centred approach to development by exploring the individual's challenges and how they are enabling or inhibiting their own success. This works through all levels from students to executives, with principles tailored to individual recognition of goals set.

Nuala’s current research centres on the role of professional identity, helping behaviours and communication in individual team efficacy. This research is based in orthopaedic theatres in Dublin and London.
