Dr Beth Parkin

I completed my PhD at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, UCL, in 2017 supervised by Professor Vincent Walsh.  Prior to this I worked as a research assistant for Dr Adam Hampshire and Professor Adrian Owen at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit in Cambridge, and later at the Brain and Mind Institute at the University of Western Ontario.  I recently joined the Psychology Department at the University of Westminster as a Lecturer.

My research explores the neural mechanisms supporting higher order cognition, such as working memory, decision making and reasoning, with the aim of understanding how the brain exerts cognitive control over behaviour.  I am also interested in how these aspects of cognition are impaired by disease. I address these topics by using behavioural, neuroimaging and brain stimulation methods.
