Anastasia Denisova is a Senior Lecturer in Journalism at University of Westminster.
Her main research interests are: 1) climate change and the media, 2) Internet memes, 3) viral cultures. Anastasia has published widely in top academic journals, including Social Media+Society; Media, Culture and Society; Journalism etc.
Anastasia's new monograph, Effective Climate Communication: From Eco-Anxiety to Eco-Action (Palgrave Macmillan), is out in 2024.
Her research on viral cultures has been published in book chapters and articles. She edited a special issue on Viral Cultures for Westminster Papers in Communication and Culture in 2020.
In 2021, Dr Denisova undertook an extensive review of fashion coverage in the media and released a policy brief Fashion Media and Sustainability.
She published a highly cited book Internet Memes and Society in 2019. Dr Denisova provides expert commentary on memes and media virality for a range of media outlets, including the BBC, Wired, VICE, and Buzzfeed.
She holds an MA in Media and Communications (City University London, Distinction) and a PhD in Social Media (University of Westminster). Dr Denisova is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Board member of Westminster Papers in Communication and Culture.
