Dr Virginia Pitts

I have connected my screen practice and research with wider communities throughout my career through screenings, exhibitions, workshops, talks and collaborative creative projects involving filmmakers, performers, scientists, clinicians, public audiences and participants from marginalised backgrounds.

Having screened widely at international film festivals, cinemas, galleries and community events, my films have generated conversations about filmmaking, storytelling and cultural representation. I have discussed this work through public Q&As, television and press interviews, and industry events.

Collaboration across disciplinary and social boundaries has been a recurring feature of my practice. This includes work with choreographers, composers and actors to explore new approaches to film development, and a documentary produced as part of the London Brain Project, which brought together artists, scientists, clinicians and children living with acquired brain injury.

I have also supported the development of emerging filmmakers and screenwriters through international workshops and masterclasses, and have contributed to the wider screen sector through festival judging, screenplay development and mentoring activities.
