Dr Teddy is Course Leader for Global Public Health with Data Science (MSc) and Senior Lecturer in Global Public Health Nutrition (MSc) at the University of Westminster. Dr Teddy completed his PhD and a Post-Doctoral position in public health nutrition focusing on the role of micronutrients on carbohydrate metabolism, glycaemic control and energy expenditure with special reference to type 2 diabetes and obesity. He also studied the role of gastrointestinal tube feeding on the health of children with severe neurological impairment and consequent oral motor dysfunction while based at the John Radcliffe Hospital at the University of Oxford. His master’s degree focused on world animal production, sustainable development and food security. He has over 18 years’ international academic experience.
Dr Teddy has published in international peer review journals and presented at numerous international conferences. He has conducted, co-ordinated and directed research and projects on behalf of charitable organisations (third sector), the private sector and government agencies (public sector). Dr Teddy has engaged with key public health stakeholders and policy-makers nationally and internationally in both developing and developed countries. He was a member of the recent United Nations joint FAO/UNICEF/IFAD/WHO/WFP high level political forum on the state of food security and nutrition in the world and is a special advisor to the Ministry of Health in Ethiopia on all aspects relating to public health. He is the academic liaison tutor in Global Public Health between the University of Westminster and the Westminster International University in Tashkent.
He is currently directing a research project looking at the effect of an integrated control trial, featuring preventative chemotherapy, sanitation, health and nutrition on the prevention and management of soil-transmitted helminth infections with reference to iron deficiency anaemia and economic prosperity. His work has led him to become a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is a Registered Public Health Nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition. He is a reviewer for the British medical journal-case study and has been CEO for Apricot Health, which advised industry on food innovation and public health nutrition. Dr Teddy speaks Italian, Amharic, French with some facility to Spanish. He has served on the board of the UK Welsh Refugee Council as Director and as cofounder and Chair of Oxpens charity.
Currently active in the following research:
- The effect of dietary antioxidants on the prevention, control and management of infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases with special reference to neutraceutics.
- Investigate the application of health data science in the control and prevention of diseases occurrence and diseases potential with reference to driving strategies to pandemic preparedness/response, advancing evidenced based policies, planning for bespoke quality health services and precision medicine, and cost effective delivery of treatments in both developing and developed countries.
- The effect of an integrated control trial, (featuring preventative chemotherapy, sanitation, health and nutrition) on the prevention and management of hookworm infection with special reference to IDA and economic prosperity.
- The impact of dietary minerals on energy expenditure and insulin secretion with reference to postprandial blood glucose management in diabetics & non-diabetics, and energy regulation in obese & non-obese individuals.
