Dr Anees Ikramullah


Anees joined the Sports Management team at University of Westminster from Liverpool John Moores University as a Senior Lecturer in 2021, having completed his PhD from the University of Kent researching sustainability in public funded community intervention sports programmes. This interest continues with ongoing research for Sport England and the Stepping Out with Carers programme. He also has a wealth of industry experience which started with managing the UK’s largest disability network football programme with Interactive (now merged with London Sport). He has also been involved with community football programmes and has helped to secure in excess of £100,000 in funding. This has benefitted more than 1000 people in London through partner organisations.


Fields of research revolve around community sports development with a keen interest in understanding factors that influence long-term participation in sport and physical activity through grassroots organisations.
