Mr Zhongxiao Hu

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Westminster. Prior to this, I obtained a MA in Digital Culture and Communication from the University of Sheffield, and a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from China.
My primary research interests and dissertation focus on heritage making of the Third Front project in southwestern China. I view the heritage-making of the Third Front project as an interaction between two dynamics: which pasts can be heritigized in a post-socialist context, and how these projects serve a contextualized local entrepreneurial agendas.
My other two research interests are: 1) the space and culture of different Chinese cities from the 1990s to the 2000s; and 2) global Chinese engagement that transcends the boundaries of nation-states, particularly how Chinese international students and migrants interact with urban spaces in the United Kingdom.
At the same time, I am an advocate for integrating digital technology into humanities research. My completed and ongoing projects include large language model-assisted critical analysis of large-scale texts and the spatialization of humanities data.
