Description | The invitation by the Pangolin Foundry to be in their specially commissioned exhibition Sterling Stuff offered Christie Brown another angle on the relationship of the ceramic material to other transformative materials associated with casting process. The foundry had cast an earlier head of hers in bronze and now invited her to cast the work into silver. They commissioned 50 artists , including some very well established names (eg Lynn Chadwick and Phillip King,) who had made use of Pangolin’s fine foundry skills for the exhibition which was then toured to a number of interesting venues. The resulting show contained some extremely beautiful and mysterious objects, small in scale but powerful in feeling. Although the final piece was not ceramic it derived from an earlier ceramic work and it continues to explore the relationship of clay to other materials. This show also offered another opportunity for Brown to broaden out her context and frame of presentation. |
