Description | The Collector Marc Grainer holds one of the finest collections of contemporary ceramics from the UK and the USA in the world. He was asked by the prestigious Philadelphia Clay Studio in the USA to put together a group of ceramic artists to represent current UK developments and it was a considerable achievement to be included. For this show Christie Brown made a group of ceramic busts and heads by casting and press moulding, based around the myths of origin that had she began to explore in the large solo show Fragments of Narrative ( Wapping Power Station 2000) developing ideas further about characterisation , narrative and portraiture by painting the faces heavily thereby giving them a theatrical look which referred to the associations of mimetic creatures such as puppets and dolls. |
