This curatorial project consists of two screening programmes titled Us and Refracted Journeys, consisting of film essays and documentary/experimental moving images of/from Asia; a roundtable discussion and networking event. The project took place at the Bienal de la images en movimiento (BIM), Buenos Aires, 2016, and was led by Ingawanij in collaboration with Experimenta India and Arkipel Jakarta.
Southern Collectives is part of Ingawanij's curatorial research project on southern film essayists. Outputs include the article 'Nguyen Trinh Thi's Essay Films,' in Women Artists, Feminism and the Moving Image, Lucy Reynolds, ed (IB Tauris, 2018); the screening programme Forces and Volumes (BIMI Essay Film Festival 2015 and touring); the curatorial project Comparing Experimental Cinemas (Bangalore, 2015); and the article 'The Essay Film as Feminist Cinema in Southeast Asia: Anocha Suwichakornpong and Nguyen Trinh Thi' (forthcoming). Funding for the project include the British Academy's International Mobility and Partnership Scheme (2014-15), and UoW's Strategic Research Fund (2016).
