| Abstract | This chapter introduces the two main subjects of the book—space and subjectivity—in relation to the context of Brazilian film production from the 1990s onwards. It highlights the importance of looking at contemporary Brazilian cinema through its diverse spatial contexts and practices. It initially provides a historical overview of the relationship between space and subjectivity in Brazilian cultural production thus demonstrating how these themes have emerged and developed since colonial times, and later appearing in cinema. Moreover, it explores the main themes and concepts covered in the volume in order to reveal the aesthetic, political, social, and historical meanings of spatiality and subjectivity in cinema. |
