Abstract

Several Economists have proposed that Zimbabwe should adopt the South African Rand in order to get out of the current economic crisis. However, another school of thought does not share this view. This paper attempts to settle this debate by analysing the causes of Zimbabwe's economic woes. The only way to cure the problem is to understand its root cause. The paper concludes that Zimbabwe does not have a currency problem a production one. There is need for the country to increase its current production levels so that the import bill will decline and exports will increase. By closing the Current Account deficit, the demand for foreign currency will fall.
