| Description | The AIDA (Artificial Intelligence Digital Assistant) on OpenLearn project is a first step towards understanding the potential for an AI assistant to support OU students in their learning. It focuses on the potential for an OU-designed, developed, researched, owned and managed AI solution. This is a collaborative project between IET's QEI team and KMi. The pedagogy and evaluation were led by IET and the technology aspects by KMi. Digital Services, OpenLearn and faculty colleagues also made valuable contributions. The project designed several iterations of a prototype AIDA and embedded this into two OpenLearn courses. Following four phases of consultation, development and evaluation with 600+ students and 40+ staff, we conducted a first randomised control trial with 163 students in June-July 2025. This gathered evidence about the potential of an AIDA to enhance engagement, retention and the learning experience if integrated into OU teaching. |
