Gregory Sporton has been the Reviews Editor for Scene since its inception in 2012. The Reviews are not intended as puff pieces or criticism in the tradition of newspaper-style notices, but as contextualising pieces for understanding the wider framework in which the work appears. This reflects the notion of the journal-review as valuable future reference material and the means to understand how the work came to be presented in a particular way in a specific time. The reviews cover a broad range of performance types, opera, dance, performance art and drama. They seek to link the existence of the work with the history and context that surrounds it, whatever that history happens to be, and include work from around the world.
