Dr Sumita Ketkar


Dr Sumita Ketkar joined Westminster Business School as a Senior Lecturer in Leadership and Development department in 2009. Sumita completed her PhD in Management in 2007 from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, which is one of the premier business management institutes in Asia. She received 'Highly commended' award for Outstanding Doctoral Research, by Emerald Group, UK for the year 2008 and has publications in leading academic journals.

She has worked with the corporate sector for about 5 years in which she was associated with implementation of various HR interventions including a massive organisational restructuring exercise involving SBUs in different sites. She was also an in-house trainer and trained managers and front-line staff. Her interest in teaching eventually led her to the field of research and education.

She lives in London with her husband and son.


Current Research:

Sumita's main research interests lie in the field of Strategic Human Resource Management broadly looking at issues of 'fit' and 'flexibility'; Ambidextrous HR system and work performance. She has an inclination towards quantitative research techniques and enjoys working with advanced statistical analysis software packages such as SPSS and AMOS.

She has also been involved in supervising postgraduate student research. Her students have worked on wide ranging topics within HRM, such as Global mobility; Reward practices; Expatriates; Change Management and many others
