Abstract | When trying to know about sexuality, I claim that methodological strategies must take as their object both the field (fucking), and the regimes of knowledge and philosophy which found sexual identity. Epistemological regimes are those which represent the body of sexual knowledge and therefore found the orienting parts of sexual identity. Even when these regimes are radical and where they attempt to transcend identity politics, it is hard, almost impossible, to think outside of philosophy. It then becomes the task of interventionist methods to fuck (with) epistemological regimes to cause shift and slippage of sexual identity through reflection on researcher’s real experiences of fucking on the field. This is a difficult task since academia, the very environment which creates the conditions for epistemological and methodological innovation, is intent on prioritising quantitative methods and projects which are likely to find favour with research councils. This is unlikely to include risky sexuality work. Here, one interventionist researcher reflects on her experiences of fucking (with) academia, with particular focus on regimes of research ethics in ‘risky’ sexuality work. |
