Abstract

What lies behind the success of higher education is being able to understand what the learner requires of the provider and moreover critically understanding the role that the university has in responding appropriately to that identified need. As such, prospective university students should be presented with a value proposition that acts to articulate the details regarding the course of study and its associated benefits.

This learner centred approach changes the dynamics of the system of education and the actors within it in such a way that it is no longer an option to disregard the needs of students and the requirement to satisfy them. Traditional learning tools and teaching philosophies offer a solid foundation upon which we can leverage new and innovative digital learning approaches and thereby be able to exploit opportunities to improve the offering.

Seeking to sustain the university offering for a contemporary world, we must therefore understand the challenges and opportunities that face us as providers and act upon them.
