This essay explores the role of global health governance and solidarity in the quest to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030, as set out in the Sustainable Development Goals. It presents the list of failed health targets, set out since 1978, due to lack of political will and resources. It presents research findings on what steps are needed to achieve sustainable development goal three by 2030. Such as moving towards more equitable access to health care services (free at the point of access), the importance of linking community voices into the policy and planning stages, to increase trust and timely utilization of health services. The essay calls for more people centered health services looking at health as a socially determined outcome, improved through reducing inequalities and reducing the barriers to timely health seeking to improve health outcomes. Voice and power need to be addressed to ensure health workers and marginalized voices are collected and addressed. |
