Description

The transformation of the iconic Tower Tavern into a student hub exemplifies the art of urban recycling. By repurposing an existing and unused structure, we are breathing new life into once cherished space while honouring its existing charm and introducing it to new generations. This project is not just about renovation; it is about preserving memories and creating a sustainable model for urban rejuvenation.
In our vision, the once active pub that gets its name from the neighbouring iconic BT Tower retains its features, with subtle updates to enhance accessibility and functionality. Above it, a striking roof extension rises, crafted from recycled materials that tell their own stories. Recycled glass, sourced from discarded windows and bottles, forms panels that catch and refract light, transforming the extension into a beacon of creativity and renewal while subtly echoing the facade of the BT Tower, London’s symbol of modernity. Recycled cork, a versatile and sustainable material, has been integrated into walls and floors, offering a tactile and eco-friendly finish. These choices underpin our commitment to both environmental and social sustainability.
Our innovative extension is a living, breathing space designed for connection and reflection. Lush greenery cascades from planters, integrating nature into the urban fabric. Thoughtfully designed socialisation areas provide a platform for community interaction. Our vision transcends construction—it is a cultural and environmental statement. By reimagining unused spaces and celebrating the Tower Tavern’s heritage, we are weaving the past into the future.
This project ensures that the pub, once a lively gathering spot then closed off for years, remains a hub for connection and creativity. It speaks to a broader mission: recycling the city itself, one memory-filled corner at a time, and reintroducing it to new cohorts of students and visitors.
