| Abstract | This chapter explores the popularity of female tennis players as a marketing opportunity for fashion brands to appeal to Generation Z consumers. Research shows that athlete endorsements are perceived as more authentic, credible, and emotionally resonant than traditional advertising, aligning with Gen Z’s values of inclusivity, diversity, and self-expression. Female tennis stars such as Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, Emma Raducanu, and Elina Svitolina exemplify resilience, multiculturalism, and activism, making them powerful brand ambassadors for Gen Z. Additionally, this chapter looks at navigating broader generational divides and gender in athlete marketing, referencing figures like Andy Murray, Anna Kournikova, and Carlos Alcaraz. It analyses the psychological mechanisms behind celebrity endorsements – attractiveness, expertise, trustworthiness, and lifestyle fit – and highlights how the global visibility and aspirational image of tennis make it uniquely suited to fashion collaborations. The rapid commercial rise of women’s sports is shown to create lucrative sponsorship opportunities, though the chapter cautions that campaigns must account for generational differences in media use and manage risks such as athlete underperformance or reputational controversy. Finally, it emphasizes the centrality of digital engagement – especially through social media, streaming, and gaming – in reaching Gen Z, while suggesting value-driven, experiential strategies to engage the emerging Generation Alpha audience. |
