Abstract | The Westminster Menswear Archive (WMA) was established as a design resource for fashion education and industry and to champion the importance of menswear as a design discipline. Embedded within an academic institution, it redefines menswear as a dynamic intersection of cultural, social, and industrial significance. The Archive plays a dual role: as a teaching collection that directly supports student learning and as a resource for industry designers seeking insights into the construction, function, and context of menswear. This presentation will trace the WMA’s origins, its focus on archetypal garments, and its diverse holdings, spanning de-signer fashion, military uniforms, workwear, and industrial design. Through key objects, we will illustrate how the Archive bridges academic research and practical application, fostering critical engagement and innovation. Finally, we will outline future strategies, including improving digital accessibility and positioning the WMA as a dynamic space for education, research, and industry collaboration. |
