Abstract | The Westminster Menswear Archive was founded in 2016 at the University of Westminster to establish and maintain a collection of garments and related artefacts to encourage and develop the study of menswear design from a technical and functional point of view, to advance the general knowledge of menswear as a design discipline, and to serve as a resource tool to inform contemporary menswear design. As the collection has grown, we have actively acquired garments designed by Black British designers, and, more recently, we have acquired items with cultural significance in addition to their status as examples of menswear design. These items include leather jackets, jeans, and t-shirts produced by the clothing and music label Soul II Soul from the 1980s to the present day. |
