Abstract

This paper explores the impact of several Student Partnerships introduced to enhance the delivery, design, and overall development of undergraduate courses, while also supporting specific Course, School, and University objectives. The initiative’s core aims were to foster a collaborative approach to curriculum design, improve student engagement, and create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Through the establishment of student partnerships, the initiative directly addressed key challenges in teaching and learning, such as improving student attendance, engagement, and attainment. These partnerships also provided a mechanism for gathering timely feedback and enabled course teams to respond effectively to student concerns by identifying appropriate actions to enhance the student learning experience.

The student partnerships empowered students to take an active role in co-designing the curriculum, co-teaching, and embedding employability skills within the course. This collaborative approach not only allowed students to shape the content of their learning but also encouraged their involvement in developing the overall learning environment. By fostering a sense of belonging and ownership, this initiative supported student retention and success, promoting deeper engagement with the learning process. Furthermore, it provided a holistic overview of the student learning experience, allowing for direct, actionable feedback that enhanced the learning and teaching process for both students and staff.
