Abstract

This case examines the challenges faced by NaturaCare Corporation's Chief Sustainability Officer in addressing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns in the company's global supply chain. The case presents the dilemma of choosing between technology-enabled empathy building and traditional certification approaches to achieve sustainability goals, with particular focus on shea butter sourcing in West Africa and cotton production in Uzbekistan. Students will evaluate how immersive virtual reality technology (VR) might be leveraged to improve corporate decision-making regarding sustainability investments.
