Abstract | To help provide a technique to enhance emotional intelligence (EI) as means to better leadership performance, we test the effect of harnessing inner strengths in senior managers at the deepest levels of consciousness through meditation, and by implication the ability to succeed at leadership. The results come from an empirical study conducted to test six hypotheses on meditation and EI employing the 125-item Bar-On EQ-i instrument on 64 chief executives in London from June 2011 to September 2011 for a consecutive period of 12 weeks using randomized, pre-test/post-test experiment design. The findings show that meditation statistically significantly enhances EI and Intraperson Management, Interpersonal Management, Adaptability, Stress Management, and General Mood which are known to improve leadership skills in managers. Directions for further research are provided. |
