Abstract

Part of the Advance HE member benefit project, 'Fit for the future: Enhancing and adapting practice for new paradigms of higher education', this guide has been developed as a resource for educators to provide insights into impactful and innovative assessment practices. It is designed as a supplement to the 2024 Advance HE Framework for Enhancing Assessment Framework in Higher Education, which highlights evidence-based assessment and feedback policies or practices which have a demonstrable impact on student engagement, satisfaction and outcomes.

This practical guide takes the factors identified in the framework as having the greatest impact on student learning and experience, academic literacy and good academic practice and presents them within four themes:

Creating assessment which showcase competencies;
Ensuring students understand the assessment;
Promoting student engagement with feedback;
Providing students with opportunities for co-creation.
