Abstract

Researchers on professional doctorates often choose their research because of several years of experience of working with the issues. Thus, they often have assumptions and ideas about what they expect to find out, and have a theoretical stance before beginning their work. In addition, research in the workplace is likely to be small-scale, involving only a small number of people, and the data is already familiar to the researcher. This closeness may seem to compromise the researcher’s ability to critically engage with information and raises ethical considerations about what may be researched and what may not.
