| Description | Night in the Garden of Love is a project that pushes the boundaries of creativity, collaboration, and exhibition-making by integrating digital technologies with textiles and performance. Taking its title and inspiration from African-American musician, composer, allamah/polymath Yusef Lateef’s (1920–2013) experimental sci-fi novella Night in the Garden of Love, the project draws on both Lateef’s extraordinary musical legacy and his lesser-known literary and drawing practices. The project features a selection of Lateef’s drawings presented alongside five interconnected works by Dawood: a VR experience, a suite of painted textiles, a garden of algorithmic plants that grow digitally in response to live improvisational music sessions, costume-sculptures, and live choreography. Through the integration of digital technologies, Dawood explores the generative potential of virtual and immersive media to prompt audiences to envisage new modalities of collectivity and engagement. |
