Description | The Growing Space is a lightweight timber structure adding to a unique cluster of buildings forming Cody Dock’s thriving citizen community hub. The lightweight building is the outcome of the Live Studio project by the Master Design Studio DS20, led by Maria Kramer with Corinna Dean. Live projects create a learning platform for students to expand on their role as citizen architects Students gain direct, hands-on experience, enhancing and broadening their range of skills, and develop their confidence through engaging with stakeholders and construction professionals whilst leaving a legacy to the community. Live projects provide a deeper understanding of the complex relationships between spatial, political, financial and social factors in connection with our lived urban experience. We introduce new ways of working collaboratively across sectors and take our multidisciplinary skills within academia and use these live projects to create a dialogue with communities and have a positive impact on society whilst introducing students and staff to alternative practice as part of action research. with: Corinna Dean Funders: University of Westminster QHT Fund |
