Abstract | The audiovisual translation industry has evolved into an ecosystem that involves various stakeholders and professionals, from content owners and language service providers (LSPs) to translators and other professionals performing a wide range of functions. This chapter offers an overview of the industry and examines the diverse roles and responsibilities of the professionals working in it. It also addresses some of the challenges faced by the sector, such as the growth of AI and machine translation, and attention is paid to societal expectations in terms of accessibility and quality. This focus of this contribution is the human factor in the wider context, and the chapter aims to explore the needs of the market, the human factor, the impact of technology changes and finally touch on the current issues facing audiovisual translation. |
