Description | 2023 - CLAY holding/transforming/performing - A Season of International Clay at The National Sculpture Factory in Cork Artists: Florence Peake, William Cobbing, Aaron Angel, Linda Sormin, Simon Kidd, Kate O’Kelly, Bernadette Tuite & Nuala O’Donovan. The paticipating artist brought experimental clay practices and traditional skills into a shared space where they performed together. In this season of clay the willingness to gather around a material became the overriding connection for all the international artists. The season celebrates clay as a fundamental and complex material. The events were curated by the appointed international curator artist Clare Twomey (UK). As part of CLAY : holding/ transforming/ performing, Florence Peake engaged with Cork-based sound, performance, and film artist Vicky Langan and multidisciplinary artist Andrea Williams, they were investigating, collaboratively Florence’s practice as an open space for experimentation and expression. A key tenet of this clay season was to be witness moments of live practice, to look into the complexity of clay production and material negotiation. This season of clay presents the breadth of material possibilities from the skills of traditional production to the urgency of clay as a vital sculptural material. The programme of live practice and keynote live conversations presented deep insights into the production and elemental demands of these ancient and current material practices that were represented by international and local clay practioners at the National Sculpture Factory in Eire. |
